Meet the Owners Joyce Muse Joyce is Rainbow Press' vice president and co-owner. She has more than 20 years of print and production experience. Joyce's career includes eight years with Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC), where she was responsible for outsourcing print and graphics services. Beginning as printing specialist, Joyce advanced to become a senior purchasing specialist/printing, responsible for all printing and graphics services contracts for the East Coast (in excess of $20 million a year). She was a member of the corporation's Print Steering Committee and negotiated contracts for, among other things, the DEC Direct catalog, promotional literature, corporate sales incentive program and DECWorld trade show. Prior to joining DEC in 1984, Joyce was Production Manager at IDG Communications/Peterborough. In that position, she supervised a team of designers and art directors for six monthly technology magazines. She was also responsible for software packaging, print production and photography. Before joining Rainbow Press as a sales representative, Joyce worked for Universal Press and was responsible for establishing a Western Massachusetts sales presence for the metro Boston-based printer. Dan Muse Dan Muse is Rainbow Press' president and co-owner. He has 20 years of print and electronic publishing and production experience. Dan started in technology journalism in 1982 and has held several editorial management positions with leading magazines. In 1994, Dan led the launch team of FamilyPC magazine (a joint venture of Disney Publishing and Ziff Davis), which was selected as one of the five top magazines in the country by Advertising Age and one of the Ten Hottest Magazines by Adweek. He served as group editor-in-chief of A+ Publishing (a division of IDG Communications) for seven years. In 1988, he led the conversion process for inCider/A+ and PC Games from traditional publishing to QuarkXpress-based desktop publishing. He has also held senior editor posts with Macworld and Byte magazines. In 1992, Dan won the Software Publishers Association Journalism Recognition award. He has also served for several years as a judge for Discover Magazine's Technological Innovations Awards. Prior to purchasing Rainbow Press, Dan was senior producer of Masslive.com, The Springfield Union News and Sunday Republican's Web site. He has also been a contributing writer to Newsweek.com and has served as Web site consultant to the Basketball Hall of Fame. In addition to his role as president of Rainbow Press, Dan is currently executive editor at Jupitermedia, where he is responsible for editorial operations for internet.com's Small Business Channel and EarthWeb's Networking and Communications Channel.
